College Week – A Much-Needed Vacation

Looks like college week has come to a close yesterday. For those that need some context, college week is this local thing where an entire week is dedicated to sports and other recreational activities. And the best part is that there are no classes. Attendance is not compulsory, so naturally I devoted my time to more judicious pursuits.

I was finally able to sit down and read the biography of Augustus Caesar that I borrowed. Now I have decent knowledge about the Roman Emperor who brought about the downfall of the Republic and the establishment of the Empire. Also noteworthy is Agrippa, whose brilliant military strategies contributed greatly to the victory of Octavian over Sextus Pompeius and later, Antonius, in the decisive battle at Actium. Octavian would have never been able to accomplish what he did without Agrippa.

Pleasure reading aside, I had an economics assignment that is due later this week. It is so boring that I will not torture you with the details. Suffice to say, however, I was able to complete the assignment within the course of a day - a surprise considering I was anticipating it taking days to complete.

Finally, I noticed that my arms are getting bigger. I used to have scrawny twigs for arms and it was discouraging for a while that I was working out and didn't notice any considerable improvements. But perseverence always pays off, and though my arms are definitely not up to my expectations yet, it appears they are well on their way. If you want an indication of the body I wish to possess, picture Chris Hemsworth. Sigh. A God truly worthy of being worshiped.

And yet, the good news just keeps on coming. Tomorrow is a holiday and the day after that is a bandh (I think) which means I still have two days to enjoy in solitude before classes resume.

But with the sweet must come the bitter. Our selection exams will be held in November, so I have to devote more time to studies. Always a bummer.

Finally, a brief passage passed between me and my family during this period, which, if all goes well, might mean I will be able to move to New York after a couple of years. Perhaps I can even get into Columbia or NYU for my Masters degree. Yes, I know, I should check my expectations and measure them against reality. However, one can, nay, should, still hope; for without hope, life is but a dreary existence that breeds remorse and pessimism in its stagnation.

PS - I watched the Green Lantern movie today. I was anticipating hating it like many reviewers, but I actually liked it. Hoping a sequel is in the works.
