No Arkham Asylum For Me This Christmas

After a week of patient waiting, I finally received my copy of Arkham Aylum: Game of the Year Edition. I figured I should play the first game before moving on to Arkham Asylum.

So near yet so far...
After installing the game and opening it, all I get is an error. It would not even let me get to the home screen of the game before crashing. When I looked up the problem online, it seemed like I was not the only one to have this error. Many people have reported problems at start-up. This is somewhat expected of PC games, I suppose. But the frustrating part is that every error seemed unique. One person would report a specific error but then someone else would report a different error. After scouring forum after forum, it seemed like there was no clear cut solution to my problem. So here I am with an unplayable game.

Developers did release a patch for the game, but all it does is improve graphics. My problem is a *.dll error that, try as I may, I cannot seem to resolve. Tried re-installing the game 4 frickin times, and still nothing. So thank you Square Enix, for releasing crappy software. You just lost yourself a consumer.

Is Square Enix to blame? Well, let's just say that I've installed a bunch of Ubisoft games on my PC, and never once have I encountered an error of this calibre. What's more annoying is that I also got a new copy of GTA 4, and while it too showed me an error, I was able to go online and solve it. So even Rockstar got it right.

I could always return it, but I got the game at a really cheap price and it would probably cost me more to ship it back than it would to just keep the damn thing. This was supposed to be my Christmas treat, so you can only imagine my frustration. As I am writing this post, I am listening to "What Hurts the Most" by Rascall Flatts and struggling to hold back my tears.

Well, not really holding back tears as much as trying not to punch a hole in the wall. Looks like my Christmas will not be so merry after all. My only saving grace will be the copy of Les Mis that is yet to arrive. Hopefully that will not give me a .dll error.
